Morning ‘Get-your-hands-dirty’ harvesting
An opportunity hosted by participating wineries to welcome auction guests into the vineyards during the beautiful and exciting harvest period. An opportunity to get ‘under the skin’ of the wines that you love . Assist in harvesting the grapes, ride with them to the winery, taste the juice as it goes through the crusher and engage in their conversion into wine. Winery specific opportunities and by invitation.
Lunchtime ‘Insider’ pre-events
A series of relaxed private and public pre-auction lunches hosted by individual wineries and Auction Ambassadors to entertain their guests. Social, relaxed and full of laughter. An unashamed opportunity for Auction Ambassadors to educate bidders about the lots that will be offered at the Saturday Auction and present a great social event in the middle of harvest in the South African wine lands.
Waterford Barrel Tasting and Auction preview
Owners Jeremy & Leigh Ord and partner/cellarmaster Kevin Arnold will welcome you into the beautiful quadrangle at Waterford Estate. Selected winemakers will arrive with prized barrels of their best ‘hard-to-get’ wines and present you with a tasting directly from the barrel . These exceptional barrels have been donated as auction lots and will be available for sale on the night. Take your time, find the wines that you love and then make a bid on the entire barrel. Once purchased, you will then be able to nurture the wines together with the winemaker until it is ready for release. A great opportunity to fill your cellar that does not present itself very often. Secure a prized and unique wine offering. A great opportunity to make a donation to charity and acquire something to be treasured for a lifetime.
Saturday March 15th 2014
The Main Event – The AfrAsia Bank Cape Wine Auction
The glamorous main event kicks-off at midday with a Sparkling wine reception and a walk-around to view displays of many of the lots to be knocked down later in the day. Gents in stylish summer suits, ladies in flowing summer dresses and a relaxed ambience will greet you where kicking off your shoes will not be frowned upon. Grande Chef Margot Janse will lead a culinary team to present a stunning, but relaxed lunch to while away the afternoon. Music, art, theatre and some of the greatest South African wines poured by the winemakers themselves will keep you entertained.
